PROPERTY UPDATE
Some information from the maintenance crew of our Church, in charge of caring for its fabric. The past several months have been very busy working in an effort to do what is best for Georgetown, often from multiple options and much varied expert experience. As well as being time consuming for us all, it’s proving VERY expensive but essential. Three main projects will result in noticeable improvements.
The front of the Church will be scaffolded up during the last week of July to enable our painter, Martin Coyle (who did the interior for us a few years ago) to give the walls a deep clean and then new coats of paint - what a difference that will make .This is planned from the first weeks of August ,weather permitting. The other three sides of the building will get the same treatment eventually, the timing determined by the costings and our financial situation.
The many community users of our Hall will be pleased when on 21 July our builder’s carpenter will totally refurbish the front double doors. The alterations will take place on site and not affect any of the users’ continued access. Such work when completed will make access that much easier; more draught and weather proof and, most importantly, more secure for evening users. The work will be supervised by another Martin who also had input into the 1999 large refurbishment of the Church, the wood panels etc.
Finally, after over 18 months of investigation and many advisory meetings and discussions we are going ahead with the replacement of the old Church boiler with two smaller, more eco-friendly and efficient oil fired boilers. Our plumber Briony will supervise this task over 2 weeks beginning on 21 July and we will not notice any difference until the October ‘switch on‘ and test the efficiency . . . and the Treasurer calculates the financial savings!
These three events will use up many thousands of pounds of our ‘savings’ so the Parish Connétable might well get a letter from us! Appreciating their use of Georgetown for their weekly rehearsals, the Holmchase Singers have offered a fundraiser for Church funds with a renowned Cake and Concert so please support this if you can on Saturday 20 September, 2.30 - 4.30pm.
